Urdu Learning & Facilitation Philosophy
The daily lexicon we utilise to speak in Hindi is brimming with Urdu influences. Additionally, Bollywood is an inescapable part of growing up as an Indian. Urdu & its facets have already been entrenched into our mind subconsciously.
At the most basic level, the predominant role of an effective facilitator is to simply draw out a sense of awareness and observation of the nuances of this beautiful language, so as to develop a working relationship with it.
At a slightly advanced and equally imperative level, it is the facilitator’s duty to infuse their sense of joy and passion for Urdu into avid learners they meet with and help them find their own sense of intimacy with the language & its literary works.
Hence the learning sessions are largely interactive and rely on the learner bringing their curiosity & enthusiasm into each session.
-
Does the course cover basics of Urdu Grammar? No, but errors in class will be corrected and briefly addressed.
-
Does the course cover writing in the Urdu Script? No, that is a part of a separate learning module.
-
Can I join the course if I speak basic Hindi only?Yes, the class is beginner friendly. Basic conversational skills in Hindi are sufficient.
-
Is there a trial class before I sign up for the entire course of Shauq-e-Urdu?You can book a spot/express interest to attend an ‘Aadaab Urdu Workshop’ online or offline in your city. It is a good way to slowly get acquainted with the language & facilitator. After this, you may book a spot for Shauq-e-Urdu.
-
What is required of me during the course? To spare 30 mins or so each week for assignments, a curiosity to learn & of course, a book and a pen :) To participate in discussions & have the camera turned on during sessions since the class is highly interactive It is advisable to attend via a laptop/desktop and not a cell phone since this may restrict online meeting functions
-
What happens if I miss a session? Please inform in advance if you are unable to attend so that it can be recorded on that day (not every class is recorded) Generally, the recording functions well & you can view the session for up to 1 week If there is an issue with the recording, you may consult a peer for class notes & cover up the rest with me If any doubts persist, you can clarify them via WhatsApp
